Anchor Text for Backlink hasn't Changed. Help!

    Greetings,
I'm trying to improve my search engine rankings for the term Minneapolis Web Design. We rank very well for other keywords but not for this one. We have a link on a client site with a very good Pagerank so I updated the anchor text to "Minneapolis Web Design" with a link to my site. It has been months but backlink checkers still indicate that the anchor text has not been updated. (It still lists my company's name).

Anyone have any ideas why this hasn't changed?

The site in question is www.asil.org. My site is in my signature.

    Thank you,
    Lisa

Can you give an example of a backlink checker you are using? My guess is its your checker thats faulty/not showing or just simply irrelevant.

Google Cached the site you referenced Jan 6, 2010 01:27:43 GMT. Just this morning was the most recent crawl. So they know about it. The title tag is right and the anchor is right

However I wouldn't rely on just that one link to do it. Build a bunch of links with that name. Put your site on Dmoz if you haven't (will take forever to get approved, but be patient) do some blog comments, throw it on some local or relevant directories. Write an article about web design or your city and distribute it to a few article directories like ezine. Are you a member of your local chamber of commerce? Make sure they use your anchor on their site.

You can also put your address in the footer of your site so Google knows exactly what your address is. (worked good for me when I did local web design a few years ago, but I got out of it 2+ years ago so that might have changed).

Make some link bait. Give A free website design away to a local charity and value it out at $1000+. Then get a press release on it and see if your local news will cover it in the paper and get a few links on local site.

Be creative and get some more relevant links with that anchor is the way to rank for that term. Sure you know that, but just throwing it out.

Great ideas - Thanks, our own site is often the last to get SEO treatment.

You've done everything right. You just have to wait for whatever backlink tool you are using to update. No worries.

Yeah, seems to go that way. Same thing happens to me in all kinds of areas. Your own stuff is the last to get attention. Keep moving forward though, your headed in the right direction. :)
