Iv been doing quite a bit of reading on anchor text and it seems quite a decent factor in ranking sites when applied in the correct format, avoiding such things and click me, part2 and none relevant text when applying anchor text. Not to mention over use of anchor text on page. It got me thinking, should I apply this to certain reviews when keywords are mentioned in relation to internal other pages within my own site. Say for instance i am viewing a game on my new site when it is built and this game happens to be like another game, take saint row on the xbox, very much like the GTA series, would it be worth including a hyperlink in such words like GTA where i have a dedicated page for GTA within the internal pages of my site. In effect include anchor text to relevant internal pages where applicable on site reviews. I was also going to site Wikepedia on various games where the history of the game can be found, in effect link Wikipedia in keywords where additional information may wish to be obtained. The down side being if i let others review and include anchor text they may abuse this by using hyperlinks only the hyperlink navigtes to a page which is irrelevant to the review in question, in effect trying to drop there link within the review to create a backlink. Wikipedia works very well in relation to anchor text, can be found on all articles, the people who submit seem to be very good at linking internal pages related to keywords within a article. How do they combat this and remove the temptation away from people to avoid linking internal pages to irrelevant websites in or to create backlinks? I noticed imdb.com pretty much stay away from anchor text in reviews however wiki seem to do the opposite, both rank incredibly high and worthy of any place in top 10, due to the content and brilliance of the sites. Just wondering if by allowing users to create reviews by adding anchor text it might be seriously abused and throw any credibility the site had before adopting this paticular function, may do more harm that good by spamming links. Or perhaps only allow myself to slight modifiy reviews were applicable including internal pages in anchor text were i see relevant and useful to the reader, maybe even linking wiki as an authority source in reviews where applicable to extra information the user may want to read. I was also considering the use of allowing people to share this review like you see on many sites, must of seen it, share this on myspace, digg and so fourth. Only they must leave the text review in same condition and leave a relevantt link back to original page. In effect FREE advertising across numerous websites hopefully, more exposure. Any thoughts, would really like imput on this, seems very important aspect of my site success or failure.
I thought you were talking about YOU editing your pages to include optimized anchor text. How are other people going to do this on your site? I did feel this was important, but considering there are over 110,000 games so it will time consuming to say the least, was considering the option of allowing people to help with anchor text whilst they write reviews but as mentions there are benifits and flaws depending on user and whether they abuse this option which some will. Perhaps for now only allow myself to edit reviews based on whether i feel anchor text would be benificial to the reader based on the type of review they are posting, also would depend on whether the keyword anchor text has pages which relate to specific keywords in the review. I would imagine anchor text in most reviews will not be evident, in a sense that unless there compare games or relate games to each other no anchor text will be evident which points to a page related to anchor text. To clarify, if they compare games like saint row to gta the anchor text of that keyword is useful as i have a page on gta, however i feel in most cases they won't compare games so most of the time keyword anchor text cannot be applied. Unless of course i seek external sources rather than internal pages within the site. Hence the thought of offering Wikepedia which is consider authority of most topics within the site for perhaps game data history where possible. It certain ranks very high for thousands of keywords, probably due to on page usage of keywords related to keywords typed in, anchor text which spews all over each article, meta tags, a wealth of information so to speak. I suppose what im asking is, given the structure of my site geared towards gaming reviews message boards and comparison, how do I apply more anchor text within reviews which are relevant to the pages within my site, or external. Would every anchor text have to relate to the game review in some shape or form, for instance, if someone mentions the word New York would it be worth an anchor text to that keyword pointing to a page on new york, perhaps on wikipedia where an article can be found. Or should anchor text be geared towards the review the user is reading, in a sense the internal links via anchor text must in some way have relevance to the review, trying to understand how anchor text hyperlinks should be used and in what instances they become useful. Do all anchor texts have to someway be linked in with the article or review, or must they relate to the keyword which is hyperlinked, example "New York" hyperlink should take me to a page on "New York" either externally or internally within my pages of my site.
Any internal anchor text links should be treated the same as if they were external links. i.e. if you had New York as an internal anchor text link, it should point to another page on your site which has been optimized for the keyword phrase New York.
