Our website has a list of terms in a sidebar that link to other pages. Will the SE's see this as anchor text or will they ignore it?

The problem is that I don't have any programming knowledge but I feel I have a better grasp of SEO that our programmers do. I see little things like what I mentioned before and compare us to our benchmark competitors and this is how I come up with the questions.

Thanks for any and all help!!

Anchor Text is the text that is between the and the . So in this example the words "and the" are the anchor text.

It is between the and the . I've read where Google is happier with other text surrounding the anchor text like if it was in the middle of a paragraph and not just a link. Make sense?

Thanks for the quick reply BTW...
