I keep reading about the importance of having backliins with anchor text and even better if the anchor text is a keyword. I never see how backlinks show up that are created by other sites such as directories so I have no idea if they use anchor text and certainly do not know if the anchor text is a keyword. Could someone explain this. Also tell me how the search engines know the backlinks have any anchor text to my site?
you can start reading here http://www.google.com/search?q=Anch...&rls=org.mozilla:tr:official&client=firefox-a
Well basically, you need to put the anchor text is the keyword that you would like people to search for. Then on your site you put a lot of the same keywords so the search engine understand that's the content you provide on your site....
If you type 'click here' in Google, you will see that adobe acrobat reader download is top. This is because there are so many websites that use that anchor text to link to that page. This proves that anchor text keywords are important and also that 'click here' wouldn't be a good keyword because no one is going to type that in a search engine.
Firstly, you should set up your group of keywords with related theme. Here is for an example. If your site sell car then you may use some tools like http://tools.seobook.com/general/keyword/ then type "sell car" and you will see a lot of keywords, If you don't care about its competitives then you can choose the first 5 competitve keywords sell my car sell used car sell car online sell car free buy and sell car that's it, after you got all related keywords then you should split how important for each keywords. If you can get 100 backlinks to your site, you may consider to use "sell my car" for 60 and "sell used car" for 20 for your anchor text, the rest all up to you. You've to think about wrights put on each keywords. you shouldn't use the same anchor text for all incoming links and they will be seen as spam in SE eyes. also need to know some html, you have to use like this sell my car not click here please note that they're different betwenn linked to http://www.example.com and http://www.example.com/ you have to use all the same url (with or without /) in the same of all incoming links or their important will be splited.
May I ask: Is anchor text just a text with a link or it needed to be placed on some paricular place to be called "anchor".
As SEOBangkok stated, you should use a group of related keywords. You can overdo it just using 1 or 2 anchor texts. Research what your competition is doing and you will learn a lot from it.
My two cents: The most important thing about anchor texts is that you should vary them. Create a dozen of anchor text combinations, and you can't go wrong. The worst thing you can do is to flood the Net with thousands of "sell car" anchors. It just ain't natural. Warkot
Just text with a link. So it's really just about the text you hope other websites will use when linking to your site. Since titles will often be used: make sure you have a good title, with proper keywords, on each page.
I cheked my anchor text with a online checker and I could not see where they had linked to my site on any of them. Please explain.
The search engines match the text of the anchor text in the link and try to match it with similar keywords on the page the anchor is linking to. Of course, it can also boost ranking of other pages on the site with similar text, so its not just tat page.
