Anchor links not working properly in Joomla site

    I am trying to use anchor links one one of my pages. I have added the anchor like this:

    <a name="anchorname"></a>
    Code (markup):
    and linked to it from the same page like this:

    <a href="#anchorname">Anchor Name Link</a>
    Code (markup):
    But when I click the link, instead of jumping to the right location on the page, it takes me to the home page of the website.

    I am using Joomla 1.5 and have SEF links enabled and I'm using ARTIO JoomSEF SEO extension, if that helps.

    When I hover over the link the url in the status bar shows domain.com/#anchorname instead of domain.com/my-page/#anchorname

    I have tried to use "my-page/#anchorname" in the link which works but causes the page to reload. I don't want the page to reload.

    How can I correct this?
