Hi all, I know of a site which receives crazy amount of traffic (4k a day) but it's not optimized at all for SE, onpage and offpage, and has a PR of 0. So they're obviously getting traffic by other means...are their any tools or programs which can analyze and determine where the traffic is coming from? Thanks
try google alerts or social alerts use Yahoo Site Explorer (before it gets shutdown) for links or use SEOmoz's Open Site Explorer
By traffic do you mean what people are googling to find that site (keywords)? If so, really check out google's adwords keyword tool. You can check out keywords, how much it's searched each month, as well as the level of competition for each keyword.
It may be just because of using right kind of key words. Use of highly search key words in content can have such kind of effect. Further try to analyse its visitors on some tool with you.
What niche is the site in? Does it have a very big Twitter account or other decent social network account?
I found a pretty cool site, very detailed: spyfu. The site has over 1000 google adword campaigns runnong...basically that's where all the traffic is coming from. Thanks guys
A basic software from statcounter could do the trick. Otherwise you may consider a bigger log analysis software such as Sawmill as a solution.
4,000 hits a day is not crazy,,,, its nothing to even brag about. As for traffic, I would do a google search for the sites name in quotes - that will tell you who is talking about the site and where its been mentioned at. You might even be able to take a look at the sites quantcast page - that might be able to provide you with some useful information.
