Analytics is better because it has more options and more ways to look at the data. Even so, it's no perfect. I prefer to use it and use other stats to compare and to look for things that don't show up in analytics.

It depends on what kind of stats you want to view.

AwStats - All requests from all visitors, regardless of human/bot.

Analytics - Requests from human visitors who have Javascript enabled and didn't stop the pages from loading completely.

Both are good in their own respects. AwStats can give you a better idea of bandwidth usage and the raw number of requests. Analytics can give you a better idea of visitor trends and has more ways to look at the data.

The only problem with Analytics is you can't see the IP of visitors. Other than that its really good.

well , both are very good , but awstats are located on localhost so I guess they show better stats ... again , maybe that doesn't have any connection ...

I'll go with Analytics. They do have more options plus it's owned by Google.

I think neither one is better. Awstats is good because of advanced statistics and I can see the amount of .htaccess logins and from each user. Analytics is good because bots don't get counted(unless they're specifically aiming for cheating analytics) because the code is in javascript and you can see more precise statics for each element such as the amount of time a user has been.

My vote is for Analytics because it's the only one I've ever used. There might be better, but I've never felt I needed anything else than the stats Analytics give me.

I prefer awstats unless it is something like a blogger.com blog than you need something like Analytics.
