Hi, new here so please bear with me. Google analytics tells me my blog has had 5 visitors in the last month while Stat Counter tells me I have had close to 900 visitors. I have placed the tracking code and submitted a sitemap and Google tells me these things are working. So why are the visits not being counted? I recently changed my header so that the title is from Blogger. I used to have the title on a photograph I used and figured there was no way the search engines would pick that up. Should I resubmit a site map or do anything because of that change? Thanks, Toemailer
To Your analytics Question, 900 To 5 Visitors? Thats Bad! Are you sure you kept your tracking code in Header OR Footer? You should keep it in header or Footer and No where else!! And make sure, you are not putting Counter Codes more than once!! ~ExP~
One thing to be aware of is that Analytics only counts a visitor where the javascript code is activated. Most "counters" count bots whereas Analytics doesn't because the javascript code does not run with bots. Look at the site log file to see if this is the case with you - it's been a long time since I looked at a log file but I seem to remember that it I could see which were the bots against real visitors. Although a difference of 900 against 5 is a huge discrepancy.
Counter shows hits. You you visit your website every day many times, your counter most likely will increase each time. Analytics shows unique visitors. What is the number of page views your Analytics shows?
Analytics is better at detecting bots (largely because of the javascript factor mentioned by rayqsl). Of course, you don't want bots included in your stats. Why are you even using hit counters still? It is the 21st century! ;D
Maybe there is something wrong with your Analytics code or you don't installed in properly on every page of your site. Better investigate your source code of your page being counted Statcounter and see if your Analytics code was there and a complete code.
