I have been using the awstats on the cpanel to check for unique visits and other information re my website. Is there any significat difference between the analytics information and what is more easily found on awstats ? With the stats off the cpanel its all there with no need to load codes on the web page - am I missing something or have I found a simpler easier way of tracking clicks to the website LennieG
I think analytics more accurate then awstat. awstat count every page as UV regardless ip. I don't believe awstat.
the UV will be more true with analytics. the traffic from search engines will more true on analytics also.awstats counts every thing that hits the server, not just real people.if someone sees your site in a search result in google, it counts as a hit in awstats even though they didn't click on it.
analytics is more accurate in helping you to promote your business better than others, but awstats is more advanced and have a lot of features...
Well the main difference between both of them is that GA collects data based on Page tagging and AWStats uses log file analysis, both have their pros and cons. GA provides much better numbers to work with.. I personally feel that GA is the tool you should be working with if you want to do some real analysis and not just count visits..
I have used both and they track petty much the same. However, it is all about the tool and what you want to do with it. Google analytics gives gives you greater ablity to mine and present the data. When doing reporting for customers and clients google analytics is the way to go. If your just looking for number of unique visitors awstats is easier to implement and use. You don't want to use a sledgehammer to drive a thumb tick, but you also don't wnat to use a tack hammer to carve Mt Rushmore.
Yes. Awstats is calculated on your server, while Analytics is calculated in the visitors browser. You shouldn't choose one over the other, instead you should use them to compliment eachother. You're going to get better information about things like screen resolutions, languages, time spent viewing pages, and things of that nature with Analytics because it runs in the browser. You're going to get more accurate numbers for total requests for resources with Awstats because the browser can't get something without the server giving it to them and the server keeps track of when it gives things to visitors.
Based on recent experiences, I have found that AWstats gives the most accurate data in terms of all your traffic whereas Analytics takes a while to record all the data, but the data that has been recorded is always useful as it breaks down each visit to the bare minimum which is good for webmasters. However, when selling a site, the buyer always asks for AWstats more than Analytics because all they care about is the number of visits.
Great question. I use both. I do believe analytics is more accurate and easier to read but I do like to compare the two to build data. Have a great day!
I find that Google analytics is really good and provides lots of great info and Awstats also provides a good count with other info different from what analytics does, so I try to use a combination of the both especially since they are both free and available to me to use
