Hey guys, I have Google's Analytics installed on all of my websites and my host, HostGator, automatically puts AWStats on my domains/websites also. The thing is though that GA will report I only have a UV of 4 and then AWStats says I have a UV of 13 (Just started this site), and then on my other site GA says I have a UV of 60 while AWStats says in 1 day I had a total of 130 UV. The first site is just a basic HTML/PHP sales page and the second site is a Joomla website. So, the question is which one should I go off of and is there a reason you can think that the two sites would report different? Thanks, C.Huffman
awstats counts everything - ie if someone takes one of your image files and puts it on another site, it'll count the pulling of that picture as a visitor. awstats also counts users who have JS disabled. analytics will only count people who pull up the analytics code...and in my book it's far more accurate at giving you a traffic number then awstats.
Its also important to understand that they are designed to perform two very different tasks, Google Analytics isnt designed to be used as an auditing system, its best used to identify trends, pattern and possible site problems
