An unusual contest...10 $1 prizes for the best TV show ideas!

Hi,

A friend and I are putting together an Internet TV Show in the style of the British/American shows "Top Gear", "Jackass" and "Brainiac: Science Abuse" (all linked to Wikipedia if you are unfamiliar with these shows).

The essence of our idea is to try and achieve seemingly impossible tasks using a combination of engineering, ingenuity and hard-work! The show will be humourous in format and will have various challenges.

The contest is essentially to provide a very simple, but good idea, that we can try and achieve. The top ten entries (as judged by us) will each receive $1. All we need is a sentence or two describing the idea.

Just to give you an idea of what we've had in mind, here's three ideas:

1) Strapping some Estes-style rockets and wings to a radio-controlled car which we would then try and fly between two buildings.
2) Trying to sell a piece of art created by us (in about 5 minutes!) for £10,000.
3) Buying a cheap car and turning it into a submarine (James Bond style!).

The Rules:
If we use one of the ideas (even ones that don't fit into the Top Ten), then we will provide credit during the TV show, including the display of a website of your choice (as long as it is not an adult site). Good free advertising for you!

We reserve the right to end the contest at anytime. The actual closing date will be on Sunday 18th November at 12:00 midnight (UK time).

The Top Ten entries will each receive $1 as a prize for the good idea, as well as the previously stated free advertising.

Also, I reserve the right to end or extend the contest at any time if I am not satisfied with the current ideas.

Any questions or queries should be directed in the thread, and not via PM, so that everyone can see the responses and make changes accordingly.

Well thought I could give it a try..

Buy a cheap mobile phone and turn it into a wired phone and actually calling someone?

I dunno if it's what you want..if it is it, then i will provide more ideas.

and btw, why not increase the prize slightly?

turn a pc into a mac computer
turn a mac computer into a pc
make a computer case out of bubble wrap
turn a car into a boat
turn a normal car into a water powered car
turn a computer into a water powered car
make a solar powered computer

 

Turn a boat into a car

Stop in the middle of a busy shopping street and stare into the sky - see how many people also stop and look up

Build a car only using car tyres for the exterior - then see if it floats

Turn normal objects into motor powered vehicles e.g. sheds, sofas, etc.

Turn washing machines into the wheels of a car

Go into an internet cafe/office/library and take a screenshot of the desktop, then remove all the files and set the wallpaper to the screenshot you took, then see how long it takes people to figure it out

Thanks for all of the responses so far, there are some awesome ideas here!

Since people have been asking us to up the prize fund, I've decided to award $10 to the TOP prize, and the remaining 9 will each get $1 each, bringing the total to $19 for the contest.

Also, do you have any ideas for a "grand challenge" that we can do at the end of each episode? Maybe a race of some kind? Or something that people might consider impossible or very difficult to do?

First to lick their own elbow

2 minutes to build as high a tower of cards as possible

A race with a bowl of water on heads, first to get across without spilling more than 50% wins

 

not sure what limits you got, but choose a house object like a cheer,couch,bed,closet anything then u put some wheels and a engine on it and race with it hehe

or build a hovercraft and race, can easily be donw with those things people blow away old leaves and stuff with, take 1-4 of those engines on and old table and u will fly like the wind it really does work! but u need a smooth table and surface.

take a grilled pig on a stick and attach a boat engine to it, i recomend no more then 6 horse power and race, each player can have a diffrent animal sounds crazy but it works!

fill up a microwave with fireworks and turn it on

 

Get an old car and drive it hard and slow up a steep as hill and try to melt the engine into a solid blob of metal.

Try to put soooo many tattoos on one surface that it becomes a 3D tattoo.

Turn an iPod into a mobile phone.

Make fake resumes and try to pass yourselves off as high class cooks, laywers etc

Shoot 1 (or more) fireworks up a tap/drain pipe and see how far it gets.

Build a machine which when attached to your legs can make you run faster than you normally can, like having robot legs.

Get a bunch of junk/relative junk to you, and try to sell it off in an auction for as much as your can. You could try getting some fancy looking computing stuff and pass them off as special weapons, motors whatever you can

Have power tool racing competitions. You can get power-saws and drills and the like, attach 2 wheels to the front and see which is fastest down a lane/track each week. Then keep optimizing them for speed

throw a Christmas tree out a third floor window and have it land in a convertible that happens to be driving by. Have the convertible drivers grab the tree and drive away as if they wanted to take it and it was a good snag

 

two more..

1. A meat javelin contest.. Make a javelin out of chop meat and see who can throw it the furthest.. Make the contestants wear bikinis

2. roadkill flinging- Scrape up a couple of fresh roadkills (squirrels, rabbits, etc). See who can fling them the furthest using snow shovels

 

go into a school and go into diffrent classes and just sit down and pretend to be a new/old student

Sing karaokee in the middle of london and see how much cash u get

go to a place where people work and start work with em without saying anything , handworkers,bankers, any kind of job

 

Another from me.
Order a pizza from one company and tell them to deliver it to another pizza company's address nearby.

On a street let people that are just walking there dance on child music

 

smoke some green and go to a 5 stars hotel with 19$ and try to get a dinner...film it.

Making a rock fly by turning the blades of a fan into some sort of a helicopter...

 

-1-Go on top of a building with a fake sniper and pretend like you want to shoot someone. Just when someone sees you, everyone will be freaked out. LOL

-2-Open a fake auction with stuff you bought from 1$ shops and sell them for a lot more

-3-Create a computer that costs 100$.

-4- Can people fly ?

Try to prove that people can fly. Maybe creating a jet pack, or putting rockets on a skate board
