    Link bait is a familiar and widely used tool that many webmasters often use to attract more traffic to a link. A popular method of link bait is a controversial debate, launching a controversial topic and watch people come.

    Some other methods of link baiting:

    • General Discussion - Entice users to add their two cents on this subject at hand, discussion of current events, controversial articles, or something in between.
    • Offers - offers something new for visitors to your site, a joke, a fun game to play online like, or some cooking advice.
    • Photos - Set some pictures cute, funny, scary or can lead to users who do not take a minute of your day to see some photos

    Now, Link Baiting sounds like a deceitful trick by malicious administrators to try to absorb the blows unsuspecting user, but in reality, Link baiting can be an enjoyable and informative for both parties.

    Overall, I would agree that link baiting is helpful to ranking, but I don't think that it works as well as it used to. These days, I think a unique tool (like a connection speed tester, a mortgage calculator, phone number lookup, etc) is required to get decent sites to link back.
