    From the article.
Is the company preparing to build a wireless network that would provide free Internet access nationwide?

    I wouldnt mind that.

seems likely since they are also partnering with MIT in their quest to provide $100 laptops and internet access to all (poor nations/communities).. seems like Google is trying to pull together the digital divide and serve ads to fund it.

"The Mountain View, California-based company, with $7.1 billion to spend..."

    Frightening.

And they've only been around for seven years.

Google is a powerful company. I've talked to a lot of people and they think Google can surpass Microsoft. I wish I had invested in Google around IPO time, I could have made a killing. The idea of closing the digital divide is a genius plan. I wish I had the money and resources to engage in such a idea. But here is the question that bugs me. With all the wealth and power Google has, why would they worry about the best interests of third world nations? Whats in it for Google.

A more profound question is, would Goolge weaken themselves by empowering other people or not? Most Multinational corporations exploit people in third world countries, not empower them. it seems Google wants just the opposite.
