An idea: premier posting

    Hi all,

I just had this thought cross my mind. We know that there are people out there lurk around forums and then gather up all the useful freely given info and then wrap a cover around it and sell 'em off. This pisses a lot of people off, not to mention making others who know a lot keep a low profile. Then the tap of free flowing info exchange starts to dry up and there goes the neighborhood.

Why don't DP come up with a premier posting section? Kinda like the sig and live link privileges. You must qualify - number of postings or number of greens or recommendation by members already in premium posting - you get the idea. Then you get to read and post on another level.

Obviously I haven't thought this through to the ultimate detail so let's see what the DP community think about this idea: good or bad? Worth implementing or not? Ups and downs?

    Whatcha think?

I can tell you right now after this get's moved into the suggestion/feedback forum that people probably won't like it and Shawn will probably say no anyway. This is purely based off of a preliminary tarot card reading.

It's kind of a free spirit mentality here. I don't think anyone here is really getting hurt from other people stealing things they posted. (Please no one steal my beef jerky monkey idea)

I don't think its a good idea (although it might exist already for all we know :D ).
I joined here a couple of months ago knowing zip about SEO etc and have learned a great deal just by reading and asking questions.
My first site since joining which is less than 2 months old is at no.1 in msn for my keywords and its all thanks to the good people on this forum.
Hodgedup is right. It's kind of a free spirit mentality here and long may it reign.

Good point, Hodgeup. I was thinking that it would give members something to work for - like looking forward to your 10th post to get your sig. A kinda area where you can get to after getting a passport - to weed out the people who actually want to get on the plane from those who are just here to watch.

I'm not saying hide good tips from DP members - anyone can still post openly at their discretion but maybe more can be exchanged when people feel that they are with others who share the same passion.

I've seen posts where people want to share but are just holding back that last bit because they don't want their hours of work picked up by a passer by and monetized.

or maybe I'm just reading too much into it :D

One of the problems with having X amount of posts for a certain feature or area is that too many people just come in and start throwing "me too" or "haha funny" or "i agree" type of posts just to hit that mark. You see it all the time for people trying to post in the buy/sell/trade forum. They're 26th post is usually why can't I post in the b/s/t forum followed by a 27th shortly after in the b/s/t forum.

True. Maybe reps would have to be taken into account if this is to work.

So we're talking about something like what WMW does? Whenever a really good posting is made it's moved to the supporters forum, where you have to pay $100+ for access...

I'm in favor of the concept, but there shouldn't be a charge associated with access to the forum. It should be based on merit alone.

The reputation bar won't work for this. Some of the bigger threads will get you 30 reds if you post something that people just don't agree with or don't like to see, so reps fluctuate like crazy sometimes. Even if you don't do something wrong you lose rep half the time.

I agree that no money should be charged. I also see your point on using the rep system as a merit measure, Discreet.

btw, I'm not trying to ruin DP. I like it a lot. I just thought I would share an idea and see if it makes sense.
