Hi all This is my first ever post at Digital Point, so hello everyone! Today, whilst looking at my analytics I noticed that a DMOZ editor has visited my site thismorning. This was quite a surprise as I submitted the site about 2 years ago (I think). I submitted the site and completely forgot about it. Anyway, I have taken a look at DMOZ today and my site isn't listed as yet. Should I assume my site has either been rejected, or perhaps moved to another category, or is it possible there is a period of time between a site being accepted and actually showing on the site. My site, a UK wedding planning site that I will not mention in this post, is a popular site with lots of good content, so I cannot imagine why it would be rejected, though I fully understand a DMOZ listing must meet with several criteria. My site has developed so much since I submitted it to DMOZ, I can't remember now what I wrote for a description, or if the description I wrote is entirely relevant to the site as it is now. I imagine a DMOZ editor will edit the description if need be, rather than just deleting it. Is that right?
You can't draw any conclusion from a dmoz.org hit in your logs. It might have been an editor or a link checking robot. If it was an editor, he might have reviewed it, moved it to a different category or decided not to review it right now. If he accepted it, it should show up in the category almost immediately and in our search after a week or so.
A dmoz.org hit to your website is likely not an editor. Editors checking out your website would likely have an IP address different than that for dmoz.org . . sorry, most likely just a spider
Really? when the identifier says something like editors.dmoz.org , then that is not an editor? If its not an editor, then who would it have been? Visits from editors are very obvious and different from referrers from dmoz.org? How else would have the original poster known it was an editor? His site is not listed in DMOZ, but got a hit from the editors' server???
I would assume that the IP would be dependent upon the ISP of the editor... the referrer would be from editors.dmoz.org (or whatever)... though according to many of the editors here, it could be a bot (see Jims post above) but according to the post below it most certainly was not an editor... I guess they don't do site reviews anymore, as that would just be silly
I didn't know that Google analytics showed specific types of user visit your site.I always thought that it was just a visitor from this city and country etc... I have today learned that there are different labels for these visitors. If I understand correctly..... Are there any other type or labels of visitors?
If the editor pressed the link from their DMOZ editor panel it will be seen as a referral visit from DMOZ. It could even be some editors having a cup or two while joking around on OP's site design.
If an editor had to move your site to a different category, that's a bad sign. It means you wasted an opportunity. An editor at the destination cat. might also have recently gone through those unreviewed without yours in the pile and may not return for some time. This should be taken as a lesson for everyone who suggests their site - get it to the right place to begin with.
