An Ebook by Any Other Name...

How would you market something in the 25-35 page range? Would you market it as an ebook? A report? Something else?

Do you judge the difference by page count, or is there something else you would use to tell the difference between a short ebook or a long report? What about 10 pages?

I know there's no magic number as to what's "technically" one or the other. I just have a few projects in the works that I plan to push forward on a bit more, and I'm kind of curious about what might be the best title to market some of them under when they're shorter pieces.

Anything between 10-25 pages can be considered to be a mini-ebook. The content of the Ebook matters, not the number of pages. People want information fast, in the shortest amount of time. If you can explain a critical thing in 1 page instead of 20, people will still happily buy it.

You can market something with 25-35 as an Ebook.

    OK. Here's another question then...

What would make something a "report" in your mind as opposed to an ebook? I was originally planning to market them as reports until someone suggested that I market them as ebooks. To me, the title of report makes it more professional (and I'm writing for a professional audience) whereas I tend to think of ebooks as something more for a casual reader or total beginner in a subject just looking for the bare essentials.

I too was first confused between what a report and an ebook might mean. After some research a year or two ago, i found out that reports are something like case-studies. They're generally free ebooks, concentrating on one laser-targeted part of a topic. They're generally used to introduce the reader to one's paid products.

There might be corrections to what i've mentioned about the meaning of reports and ebooks. But that is what i've found out. Don't get confused by marketers interchanging the use of the word, report and ebook in several places. Most of the time, they themselves might not be sure on why they're calling their product an ebook or a report.

A report is what is suggested in the dictionary. Its a targeted case-study sort of thing, which is also informative. Also, the word report is used by some marketers to represent Ebooks which are less than 15 pages or so.

An ebook is like a book in electronic format, meant to teach something to everyone who reads it. Surely, its better to have your product be called an Ebook. But Report or Ebook, it really doesn't matter, after seeing many marketers interchanging between those two words.
