Amount of words in a domain

Do the amount of words in a domain have a dramatic effect on its worth if you have for example 3 words (totalling 14 characters) even if its a great sounding, easy to remember name, easily pronounced etc, does the fact that it has 3 words really affect its price in a big way?

I understand there are the other factors like age, extension etc, but mostly concentrating on the above factors, what are your opinions please?

PS: none of the words being the, and, for etc

Sometimes 3-4 word domains if they get type in traffic it can be highly targeted and quite lucrative. Each one you have do decide on an individual basis.

use shortcuts - like instead of hand-held-wireless.com you might get 2dot4.com

kohashi, i know what you mean, with certain domain choices it could work but with others it may not be ideal, depending on certain things, thanks, i appreciate you feedback.

4seamer, hopefully if a name is chosen well i think that could be useful, but similar to kohashi's suggestion i guess i need to approach each name decision individually, thanks for your advice too.

Decide what your goal is first and consider everything (ie budget, goals, lifespan, etc)

If you plan on building a business for years around the domain, short and memorable makes more sense than a long keyword in some cases. However, if it is a niche particularly a geo location, <city>servicenamekeywords.com may make perfect sense. If you just are making an adsense site domain quality is less an issue often, etc.

Not the amount of words but the complexity to remember the domain name.

personally, i like one or two word domains...

the more letters, the harder it is to remember...

Thanks shand0, yeah i think going beyond 3 words can be stretching a domain too far.
