I was in Ikea recently and you're right. Chinese goods have taken over the store.

buy the goods from Bosch, I know they aint cheap, but havent seen any their product that was Made in China. Siemens (which is a daughter of Bosch or the otherway around:)) might have smth....although Im not sure.

Will we get to the times when the Mercedes Benz/BMW cars will be made in China? :)

Germans are still very proud of their manufacturing technology, maybe not so soon, but as and when China improves its manufacturing capabilities who knows?

Their costs are much lower than that in Germany.

Higher price does not give you a higher level of quality.

People are fooled by a $1000 price tag on a $25 bag

Nah, it was never meant to be a bargain, Gucci and the likes never look at their products as bargains but as status symbols. You pay $975 to be among the high class.

That is true. Did you know the same company (Sears Holdings) owns K-mart, Sears, and The Great Indoors. K-mart is low end, Sears is middle and The Great Indoors is high end. The appliances are basically the same, they just charge different prices for them. I will spend more for quality, but not status.

Just another case of Americans being fooled. I'm sure most consumers have no idea that Kmart owns all three stores.
