My 2 cents as someone that works with Americans, has 25% of American visitors to sites, and even employs 2 Americans.... And yes I live in Canada.

#1 Generally Americans are very hard working, proud, and honest people. As such it's usually a pleasure to work with Americans.
#2 There is still a huge percent of the population of the country that fit in description #1, but that voted for Bush in last elections, after seeing his "awesome" performance the first time around. Something makes me doubt these people's intelligence or at least awareness about the surrounding world, but I can overlook it.
#3 And then there's some 10-20% of American population that are complete and utter morons -- like the starter of this thread that demands everyone stops speaking English and calls other people "foreigners". You usually see those people on Jerry Springer, in poor (white trash/ghetto) neighbourhoods, and on online forums.

These 3 groups give enough possible combinations to the media to "spin" their story. And since the media doesn't like reporting on good things the rest of the world sees enough of groups #2 and #3 to come to some not quite logical conclusions.

My conclusion is that the average American is NOT dumb. However the starter of this thread quite ironically showed why some people think that the average American is dumb.

 

One more reason why people think American's are stupid.... Just keep adding to the pile!

 

I forgot to add -- the SMART Americans do not open dumb threads on the Internet. They do not call people from other countries "foreigners" (funny word when used online -- foreign to what?). They don't pretend that they invented English. They don't have to justify their own existence by stating that "Company A or Company B is American!!!! We own you!!!!, and generally don't resort to personal attacks to prove their point.

The SMART Americans own shares of Company A or Company B, work for multinational companies, make large amounts of cash and live the American dream, generally being busy and successful enough not to have the time or the reason to prove that they're #1 (why prove anyone anything if you know you're smart and successful?). In short SMART Americans make things happen.

And then there's the losers that have a surprising amount of time to post dumb threads online offending the rest of the world for no reason and chanting "USA #1!!!" while they've personally done NOTHING for USA to be #1 in the grand scale of things... As such the rest of the world sees a disproportionate representation of the real American society -- people that have never been to America can easily make up their mind based on the fact that STUPID Americans are the majority that are heard (example = creator of this thread), because SMART Americans are too busy to correct them or just do not care enough for similar stupidity.
