Americans (at least the ones I've ever known) don't use the terms "John", "can" or "toilet". It's a bathroom or restroom :). A "john" is a guy that picks up hookers.

During PRIMARY SCHOOL/ELEMENTARY SCHOOL we have a sports day, and we all have POP/SODA and CRISPS/CHIPS for DINNER/LUNCH

    UK/USA

I think that's right, although I may of got the school thing wrong.

A write-off is a business expenses that I take off of my taxes. A car that has been wrecked beyond repair is totalled (or a total loss). I used to be a "Total Loss Adjuster" for a US car insurance company ;).

The primary school, pop (although this is outdated) and crisps are correct.

However i UK we use both Lunch and Dinner for two different meals, we dont call 'lunch' 'dinner' :)

Well, to make it even more confusing, east coast Americans and west coast Americans seem to have their own languages as well.

    East/West
    -----------

    Pop/Soda
    Rig/Pick-up Truck
    Pie/Pizza

(There are many more :) )

It's funny when americans in Europe still say bucks instead of euros, pounds or whatever...:)

And there's quite a difference in value too!:)

Are school dinners eaten on the night?

They're interchangable here and where I've grown up. I refer to the dinner you're thinking of as tea.. "What's for tea mum!"

    Breakfast, Dinner then Tea.

Only it seems in recent years has lunch replaced the word dinner as you describe it. I still prefer to call it dinner as lunch seems a bit posh and Americanized for my liking.

"F*** I'm starvin' I need some dinner!" I'd say just before..well..dinner time which in my world is 12! ;)
