While US can make a British company pay $20 billion for an oil spill that claimed 13 lives, it is bullying another country into giving up claims of $300 million against an American company Dow Chemicals which caused the death of 15,000 people and also threatening it with consequences. Here is US deputy National Security Advisor Michael Froman bullying India into giving up its case against Dow Chemicals claiming $300 million as compensation for Bhopal Gas Tragedy which claimed 15,000 lives and contaminated the environment. That was in a response to this email from India: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com...f-chill-in-investment/articleshow/6333951.cms
The Union Carbide settlement should have been paid in full long long ago. They should pay a hefty penalty(2% ?) for each month it is delayed. India should not be allowed to exceed their World Bank lending limits based on quid pro quo relationships and special favors. Lending limits are not established arbitrarily, as the article implies. They are set based on risk.
My dad was 1 of the head consultants/supervisors at one of Dow Chemical plants for ~15 years, which is 1 of the plants being blamed for this. They made most of the toxic chemicals that were used in electronics, the fine would drastically hurt Dow and possibly 2500+ people could lose their jobs so the US government needs to stick up for Dow and not pay the fine.
It is called "Might is Right" policy , they can easily print few millions of dollars and give it to india.
And they think world don't like them because of their advancement in science, education and development etc. etc.
so isn't this a hypocricy ? for you earning money for the living is much important than those who are disabled and handicapped because of this mishap ? 2, 500 losing jobs compared to over 200,000 killed and more disabled handicapped humans living ? An american life is more valuable than an other nation's human life ? If so, America must shut up in not making fuss of Human Rights allegations on other nations, when what they do are double standards. Human life is a human life, you can't apply double standard games, its because of such double standards you will see a rise in terrorism and hatred towards America.
Money, bullying, and insensitivity yes. It is the nature of capitalism at it's core. The person who is more in need always negotiates from a position of weakness, regardless of the "humanitarian" issues at stake. In the case of the settlement with BP, they were negotiating from a position of relative weakness. The same is true for India asking for more cash. What you are asking is for the government to not use its power and influence for the sake of what is right and just by the Indian people or, if no other reason, at least what is perceived to be right and just. Rather surprising for the Obama admin, since they have bent over backwards to appease certain dictators for appearances sake. Lets keep in mind that neither FreeTheNoob, nor I speak for "America". Lets also keep in mind FreeTheNoob is the guy who started the thread talking about children enjoying being molested. There are lots of varied opinions out there, but I would imagine the American people, if polled, would weigh in HEAVILY in favor of Dow making good on it's 300 million dollar payments. Right now, the anti cronie capitalism sentiment in America is growing to a fever pitch. You guys should take a page from the book of the Palestinian terrorists. If a group of terrorists can gain a sympathetic ear from 15% of the American people and effect our foreign policy, imagine how much far a legitimate cause like this could go with a bit of attention from the press.
What the fuck is wrong with you? What the hell is wrong in your head to come up with something like that?
O'nation -FTR, believe I recall the thread you're talking about... and that poster had the word "newbie" in his handle, not "noob".
Obamanation, I'm reasonably certain that you have "FreeTheNoob" confused with the user "Noob_Bashing" That molestation thread has been deleted, but I believe it was Noob_Bashing that started it.
Nasir, it was not freethenoob but this guy http://forums.digitalpoint.com/member.php?u=379467 who started the thread This is funny though
Bah, FreeTheNoob, my apologies. All the noobs start to blur together after a while. One doesn't quickly forget a thread where the OP claims that children enjoy being molested, though apparently I quickly forgot the exact name of the poster, for lack of a thread to refer to.
