Amazon?

A friend of mine whom I just introduced to the Google toolbar and the whole concept of SEO just emailed to ask why Amazon has a PR of 0. I went there myself and sure enough, Amazon has a totally gray bar in my toolbar. Can somebody tell my why? I find that really bizarre. Gee, now I can say my PR is higher than Amazon's! ;)

i would hazard a guess that it is because of their long session id's that show in the address bar

One is always redirected to a sub-page. The sub-page has the low page-rank.

I'm quite sure that Amazon had a PR9 at some time, it probably shows PR0 because of the dynamic URL. I guess they don't need the main page since they already have 3,7mil indexed pages...

    btw: it's PR9 indeed: http://www.pagerank.net/pagerank-checker/

They might also change the page name so that more pages get indexed.

what's more interesting to me is that amazon pages with 0 backlinks show high in even pretty competitive serps..

I don't doubt that they have backlinks. That's why I didn't understand why the PR bar was blank.

I don't know about you, but when I click on it I briefly see a green par (that looks like a 9), then it redirects and gets a grey
