Hi all Out of curiosity - which do you think is a better earner on a website? I'm from the UK but my site is a .com and is not specific to the UK. I definately want to have Amazon affiliation but don't know whether to set it up with the UK or US site. I guess I could set up both? Which did you choose and why?
I have used both. US has more potential, larger population, demographic, etc... I would go with the US personally. Afterall, Amazon.com US is thier flagship website.
Hi Thanks for your replies - I thought that might be the case. I may wait a little while to see where most of my visitors are coming from first and make a decision based on that.
It depend your niche and traffic target. So you need to study where most your traffic come for your website.
I am a member of both US and UK and have wondered this too as I have traffic from both countries to one of my sites....Am I right in guessing that if someone clicked the Amazon US ad but were in the UK so clicked through to amazon.co.uk to order that I wouldn't get the affiliate commission ?
Hi Davybuk, Now there's something I hadn't thought of. I guess not as they are two seperate sites unless someone else has found different? Since I started this thread I have ended up making a US Astore to start with - simply because the range of goods on there for my niche is so much bigger than the UK version. Infact looking at the UK site has made me feel quite frustrated that it isn't as big or anywhere near as well organised as the US one. The problem is that I wish I could offer UK customers what I can offer to US customers. It seems such a shame. I've even found Portuguese food on the US Amazon site but no food at all on the UK one. Ah well - onwards and upwards...
Is it possible to have Amazon US and Amazon UK on the same site ? Maybe not on the same page next to each other but actually on different pages so you could try and appeal to US and UK visitors ?
Hi Davy Yes I'm thinking of doing that although I don't know if it would look a bit weird or not! I guess probably not if they are on different pages. I would like to be able to offer the products that are on the UK site - it covers everyone then!
I live in Europe and have an Amazon US affiliate account. You can get paid in gift certificates which can either be spent on the US site or as I sometimes do sell them on Ebay to convert to cash.
Fadetoblack - you don't need a US bank account. You can get paid by cheque or by gift certificates. For the cheque they waive the $15 fee for processing when you're outside the US. I use Auctionchex to change my dollars to pounds - they give better rates than my bank although of course you get much less pound to the dollar anyway.
Go with the US - More potential and more profit for most things online This isn't to say that you should ignore the UK market because we rock!!! B
You can join both US and UK amazon programs. But you would have to join them separately. They operate as separate programs and pay separately. I would suggest also using AcclaimSubscriptions.com to market next to amazon pages -- AcclaimSubscriptions sells worldwide from one site and pays commissions on worldwide sales. New design in 1 week will improve conversions even further.
Go with both I've been posting a series of articles on my blog about building your own context links that will send users to either the US or UK Amazon site depending on where they're from. Check out the whole lot here: http://blog.dantup.me.uk/2007/08/blogging-creating-better-ad-system-with_9334.html I'll be tidying up and posting the source code soon, but you can copy/paste it yourself from the blog if you're confident
