Hello, I have a website on fitness niche with quality unique content and growing traffic. I have never thinked of joining affiliate network until I get into DP. I read most of your topics, I reasearched many other sources, and I still have one question? What is better for a newbie, amazon or CJ? What are the main differences between them? prons and cons?
My earnings with Amazon have been horrible. I would recommend a combination to determine what works for you. The big issues with Amazon is they have a 1 day tracking cookie, so the visitor pretty much needs to buy at that moment, and you don't get the opportunity to benefit from future sales. Their commissions are super low. The advantage of Amazon is that they have many products, and everyone pretty much has an Amazon account. Commission Junction has higher commissions, depending on the merchant/program. Cookie life can range from 7 days to 45 days depending on the merchant. I think the biggest thing is to test. Amazon has sucked for me.. but that could be related to my niche/products, where Amazon could really be the ticket for you. I would try to mix your products between CJ and Amazon and see what preforms the best. Focus on the better performer down the road. Good luck! hanji
I use Amazon mostly for products that I don't have another affiliate account that offers that product. Hanji makes some great points above about Amazon's cookie and commission rate. Most of my Amazon sales are tied directly to a google search for a specific product. I think you need to diversify and use multiple affiliate company programs. In your case I would sign up for both.
Yes, see if you can do some kind of split testing - put different ads on different pages and see which perform best over, say a month. You say you haven't been monetising your site till now, so no need to rush in now and slap ads everywhere. Take it easy and see what proves the best earner for you. I would echo all the points above - Amazon has massive amounts of trust on the net, so the relatively low commissions could be offset by better sales.
I cannot compare amazon with CJ,Amazon pays 4%(too bad) Cj Pays mush higher,I will advise you to use CJ.
Amazon would be wonderful but the 1 day cookie is what kills me and that is why I chose CJ. For some people amazon convert really well. but your customer has to buy in 24 hours otherwise ur outta luck.
Yes. 1 day cookie is brutal. For some reason, I still try to promote them on occasion. Seems like there is a technique to really make Amazon convert, but I've not found it yet. hanji
