just got it in the mail

    >>>
Beginning January 1, 2007, your Amazon Associates payments will be monthly instead of quarterly, paid approximately 60 days after the end of each month. For example, referral fees you earn in January will be paid at the end of March, and payment of referral fees earned in February will be paid at the end of April. As part of this change, referral fee tiers will be adjusted to reflect monthly instead of quarterly item quantities:
    >>>

    >>>
Lastly, effective January 1, 2007, we are increasing the Check Processing Fee for US-based Associates from $8 to $15.

Sweet!! It's about time they changed to paying every month. Hopefully in a year they'll change to net 30 instead of net 60.

That means next year, instead of the busiest month, ie December, being paid at the end of January, it will be paid at the end of Febuary.

When, or IF, they change it to net 30 days then it be a move forward.

I don't like this at all!

Especially the quarterly tier levels being split into monthly tier levels.

If your sales for a quarter are like this:

    Month 1: 5

    Month 2: 10

    Month 3: 5

you get hurt, because you lose the tier premium for half your sales, and you would have had it for all of them under the old scheme.

However, if you sales look like this:

    Month 1: 6

    Month 2: 6

    Month 3: 6

then you are better off, because you get the tier premium for all your sales, and you would have had none under the old scheme.

It also favors those who sell small ticket items, and makes it harder for those who sell more expensive things.

I'll be switching to electronic funds transfer after I receive my first check. I need to do the whole ritual thing of taking a picture of me holding my check. (This goes for my first Adsense check, too.)

Then, I'll Xerox a copy of my check and frame it next to my PC. It's just a psychological thing, you know... "Seeing" the check...

I hope to get more in the future.

Yup, it has a delay in the payments. However, I personally liked the 90 day querterly payments. Gives it time to build to make it actually look like a decent check :p

With it that way I can actually tell the women that I am not just "dinking" on the internet. Now it's going to look silly!! :p

This is a very bad news for overseas associates.
Instead of processing 4 checks in dollar per year, we now have to process 12.
The cost of processing a US check into a local currency in my country is between $4 and $12 per check.
And in top of that as you mentionned the new tier levels mean that we will loose a bit of money.

Depending. The new structure IS relative to the old; but as stated before you have to get quantity now rather then waiting a while to let it build up.

I just looked over the last quarter, and I would have made more money under the new scheme. It is going to be difficult for anyone in a foreign country that can't get direct deposit. If you can have a dollar account in your country, you should be OK, since you could then just deposit your check. It's a shame they don't use PayPal and MoneyBooker, because those are available in a lot of countries. Then you could let the balance build up before getting it out and converting it.

For some reason amazon switched me from the performance to classic fee structure this quarter. You may want to check and make sure you were not switched back to the classic fee structure as well.

Don't they give the option of delaying payment so that you can save the money till it amounts to something worth caching a check for?

I immediately checked, and I didn't get switched to classic. Were you classic at one time, then switched? Maybe it goes back to your original fee structure? I started out with performance.

They do it as a means for the assocites who havn't really been paying attention or don't really make any sales anymore... its more so for their financial bookkeeping.
