Amazon affliats references

I've noticed that associate IDs are passed through URLs in several different methods:

    1. ref=SomeAssociatID
    2. tag=SomeAssociatID
    3. associateTag=SomeAssociatID
    4. /SomeAssociatID/

    Does anyone know the difference?

Perhaps the different types of links/ads have a different methods because they were developed by different programmers or on different systems.

BILZ is probably right. My Web Services URLs are formed differently than the product links I build manually through the Amazon site.

The referral link code has changed over the last view versions of Amazon Web Services/Amazon E-commerce Services. Back when you got paid a premium(15%) for direct link buys, the link format mattered if you wanted to get the bonus premium. Now there are a bunch of new and old formats.

The current standard for a product link is as follows:
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/INSERT_ASIN_HERE/INSERT_REFERRAL_ID_HERE

However, manually building links doesn't use that format.

I think as long as your ID is recognized regardless of which format you choose, you'll be okay and get paid for every purchase made through your aff links.

I'm not sure about that. Amazon have various programs at different levels, not all aply to all publishers.
