They set 24 hour cookies. It's one of the reasons that it's so hard to make money. Items are tagged as they enter the shopping cart, so if someone comes in under your affiliate and puts something into their shopping cart, you will get the sale even if it takes a month for them to decide to pay for it and have it sent. However, if someone comes in through your link, finds a product they like but does not put it in the cart, and comes back 25 hours later, you've lost the sale.

Thanks for your posts! Maybe I should look for another affiliate program. Any suggestions?

Gene Kavner (name/spelling?) has a very helpful blog post that talks about the cookie-life Amazon's affiliate program, and shows why 24 hours isn't as bad as it seems. I'd still like 72 hours but 24 gets the job done.

I will see if I can find a link.

24 hour isn't as bad as people make out. If someone wants a particular item they usually buy on the spot, plus they often impulse buy as well. You're always going to lose a few sales but that's just Amazon, there's plenty much better affiliate programs out there
