There is a whole thread on Chitika here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=395892#post395892
Erm compar, I think that Lynda was using what is commonly known in the trade as: "a joke". Never mind, you manged to get a sneaky link to a page with your affiliate sign up link, eh?
Well I love a good joke, can you explain this one to me please. In fact from other posts by Lynda I assume that English is not her first language, so I doubt very much that this is a "joke". But I've been wrong before.
The only problem with this ad is the fact that the tires actually go upwards and go faster each hit of the type which is not really possible. Still a cool ad though.
Behind the scenes: http://www.opinion.telegraph.co.uk/.../nhonda13.xml&sSheet=/news/2003/04/13/ix.html
At one point three tyres, amazingly, roll uphill. They do so because inside they have been weighted with bolts and screws which have been positioned with fingertip care so that the slightest kiss of kinetic energy pushes them over, onward and, yes, upward. During the pre-shoot set-ups, film assistants had to tiptoe round the set so as not to disturb the feather-sensitive superstructure of the arranged metalwork. The slightest tremor of an ill-judged hand could have undone hours of work. Would have been cheaper to do it with CGI
Yeah that ad's pretty old now - gotta be a year or so... It was created by Wieden & Kennedy and is 100% actual film... NO CG WORK AT ALL... It's one of my fave ads of all time - I even have it on DVD... Stunning - still a year or so later... A spoof follow-up ad (I can't link to it bercause it's on a flash site) was created a little while later... http://www.marketingvox.com/archives/2003/07/10/honda_cog_ad_parody/ It's very funny (If you know 188 188) Edit: They used weights - like I say... There is NO CGI WORK AT ALL involved in this ad...
...it certainly wasn't to pimp my affiliate link, that's for sure. Someone mentions a cool advert (which is cool, that's for sure. If a couple of years old by now). Someone else mentions Chikita Malls with a winky smilie, which indicates a tongue in cheek reference to the fact they're all over the forums at the moment. (That's how I took it). Anyways, I need to put my handbag in for repair now.
Anyone seen the video on this site? http://www.studio2f.com/misc/2003/08/18truth_in_advertising.php I dont know what it was for but it is very amusing....
I've also seen the Honda ad quite a while back. It's even more impressive after reading the behind the scenes article. The parady video is hilarious. Thanks for the link.
That's one thing about compar, at least he's man enough to attribute his red feedback. ...unlike you other cowards. (I got more red yesterday than in my whole time at DP! ) (Anyway, not my intention to make this another YART, so...) Honda have done some excellent adverts. I like the "Hate something, Change something" advert. The style of it is cool, and there's so much going on in the background in a subtle way I can't take my eyes of the ad. ...and that bloody tune... it's in my head for hours!!! I'd probably own a new Honda if I could afford one right now. Our Civic got written off by the garage when it was in for an MOT. *sob* Cheers Chris
