Hi All, After being a member of another SEO related forum for nearly a year I thought I would check out DP, so am not a complete "newbie"... Anyway, my website has been ranking consistently on the first page on Google.co.nz for the search term "web developers" but I hardly get more than 80-100 visitors a day. As of today I am ranking 2nd only to a Wikipedia article. My website is www.interkiwiwebdevelopers.com and here is the Google search URL: http://www.google.co.nz/#hl=en&biw=1280&bih=510&q=web+developers&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=310f2973e5a18a04 Code (markup): I currently rank 2nd out of 153 million other competing pages. I have been doing alot of SEO work on my site for the last few months so as far as ranking in the big G, my efforts are paying off, except I am not getting many visitors. It doesn't concern me too much that I'm not on the front page on Google.com for the term "web developers", I am mainly targeting for clients in NZ so ranking 2nd on Google.co.nz is good for me (but I happily accept overseas clients). I have been dabbling around with SEO for about 2-3 years and web design about 4 years, but Google still confuses me lol. However Google is getting easier to understand...
Well done on your achievements, I'm thinking that 80-100 targeted visitors a day from 'web developers' is a pretty decent amount, but the big question is how well you are converting those visitors in to leads and then customers. We are actually targeting the same keyword, but we just got #1 ranking on the main google.com site for web developers. See you at the top!
According to the Adwords keyword tool, the term web developers has 140 monthly searches in Google New Zealand ( the English version) Looking at that figure, and assuming that your figure of 80-100 includes spinoffs of that keyword, it seems like a pretty reasonable figure. Web Design would probably be a better keyword to try for ( has 3600 local searches according to the keyword tool). You are currently showing up somewhere in page 4 for that keyword.
estimate your traffic with Google keyword tool.It will tell you the total traffic you will get for that keyword.
Yep, standard techie mistake - thinking about what you do, not what the customers think you do. They think "I need a website, how do I get it" and yes, as gr8liverpoolfan pointed out, they probably think design because that's what they see promoted about the place. Ultimately they don't care who you are, they are only interested in what you output. Given that you are a uni student the amount of traffic you get should be keeping you busy.
