Am I fully covered with paypal if anything goes wrong?

Hi, I buy and sell a lot of high end make up and a lot I receive from the states. I have a new contact who I have never dealt with before but came recommended by someone who has given me contacts in the past. Anyway I ordered a parcel from them 2 weeks ago that did not turn up and they say they sent the parcel worth $250 to the wrong address by mistake. I do believe them but as I have ordered $1,500 of make up yesterday with them, I just wonder if I should hold back before dealing with them.

The trouble is they are cheap and one non payment and you get struck of their email list, so if I don't pay I can't use them again. I am just a little wary with the lost parcel although I am 95% sure everything will be fine, I am still careful.

If I did order and something went wrong am I covered or is there anything else I can do to preotect myself? I have tried checking their paypal status following paypals advice but it does not appear, this being paypals instructions are wrong or out of date as I can't get anyone elses to show up either!

    Thanks for any help

    Paul

It is hard to say if you would be protected. If you did not receive what you ordered, you can raise a dispute in Paypal which I would encourage you to do. By doing so, the other party would need to prove that they delivered the goods and if they cannot, you will win the case. Then it all depends on whether they kept the money in their account to pay you. If they are scam, they would inevitably withdraw the money and you may not get a cent. The longer you delay the worst it would get.

However, if they are honest, even if you use the dispute, they can be clean about what they do and Paypal is kept in the loop. Once you get the items by post, you can close the dispute once you are satisfied.

How would a company knows that they mailed to the wrong address unless you provided a wrong address or the parcel has been returned ?

If you fund with a credit card you can also make a chargeback through your card issuer if paypal denies a dispute. Definitely don't hesitate to file a dispute if you don't get what you ordered.

To answer this question she stated that she sold to someone with the same name as me and sent it him by mistake. This came to light when I asked for the tracking number and the wrong address was on it.

Of course I mind if I lose the $250 for the first parcel but it would not be a disaster and of course I would open a dispute. The problem is I oreded another parcel worth $1,500 and was expecting the first to turn up and then would have paid for it. Now the first has not turned up I don't want to pay for the second, the trouble is if I don't I am struck of their email list, this is the case with all my conracts as they have to order and pay in most cases so they can get stuck with it.

I told her though that I don't want to throw another $1,500 on the basis of a lost parcel. I am not dumb and this contact has not come through some dodgy site, all contacts are given to me by someone who has given them me and the past and that they have used, but I am still careful and trust I will get them, but I while I still have a niggling doubt I wont pay the other $1,500. I asked for a refund on the first parcel that got lost and as yet have not had one, so I think I will have to just put in a chargeback and lose the contact which is a shame as they are the cheapest.

    Thanks for the advice

    Paul

Hope you get your money back.

Sometimes if something looks too good to be true, it probably is.

What is the likelihood of your name matching another customer who orders in the same time frame ? To me, it does seems a little unlikely. I mean if for some reason, they got the name mixed up, you should be getting the someone's elses product and he got yours instead.

Paypal's ability to cover you in many ways in invariably tied to the honesty of the seller. If they are honest and it's a legitimate mistake, you'll be convered in any case. Unfortunately, in some cases if it's a true scam; Paypal's ability to protect you might be limited. Only a dispute, further communication with the seller and time will tell but keep us updated!

    Good Luck & Take Care!
