Quick Q to anybody that might have tested this - I think it'll be beneficial to me... I have 3 sites - one central hub (Space Clothing) and two plug-in microsites focused on specific products. they tie together to form a network. now on the product detail pages of the microsites, i have a link that points to the same product on Space. this will, unless i am mistaken, count as an inlink to Space thus increase my rankings. Either that or google will turn round and say "waaaait a minute... i see what he's trying to do 'ere...". any thoughts?
make sure that the product pages on the central hub and the ones on the microsites have slightly different content so you don't fall under "duplicate content"
hmm, good point. currently they do not differ as it all pulls from the same database. how much should be different?
A simple technique is to add a custom comment of ~100 word, that should be different between the 2 sites. Or even better you could implement a comment system so the users can add their own thoughts.
yea i keep meaning to add a commenting system. comparing the two sites, the product detail pages are actually very different, it's just the text describing the item which is the same. this shouldn't be a problem as many sites will take their descriptions from the manufacturer websites anyway. i'll let you know if i get kicked out! lol
