Am I being Ripped off?

Discussion in 'Web Hosting' started by Ritaj, Dec 11, 2009.

I recently signed up for a VPS and asked for additional IPs. I keep
getting told that they are ordered, but that the body which
distributes them has become very slow at letting them out.

Does anyone know if this is true, or am I being told 'porkies'?

I do know that you have to justify needing extra, and have been
told that my justification is accepted. So what is the hold up?

    Thanks

Most hosts say all orders will be processed within few hours & up to 48 hours.

It's possible. Most hosting providers don't manage IPs. But how long have you been waiting? Generally it can take 24-48 hours for IPs to come to you if requested during business days.

I'm speaking from the hosting provider end and I've been in places where I Had to wait several days from our network provider to assign us ordered IPs. I know how annoying it can get but it does happen. You still have to look at how long you've been waiting. I've never had to wait more than 24 hours on business days and my provider doesn't assign IPs over the weekend anyway so I try not to order on Fridays.

I have not had to wait over 24 hours to get assigned new ips. I don't think it should take over 48 hours for any reason I can think of.

Its entirely possible that the hold up is because your host does not have their own Allocation of IP addresses. If that is the case, then they are likely waiting for their provider to assign them.

It's not uncommon for this process to take some time. Between the allocation approval, the assignment and then routing of said IP's to the appropriate host, there are and can be some slight delays. It pays to think ahead, or go with a host that has their own Allocation of IP's directly from ARIN.

    This is true case.
    Especially deal with offshore DC.
How long you have waited for the IP?

Thanks to everyone for their replies.

I did finally get the IPs, but it took about a week. Still, they did
    arrive, eventually.

    Again thank you all.
