I have been trying to transfer a domain of mine to a person that bought my site and I am using Low Budget Host. Turns out the whole company is a scam, and while my sites continue to be hosted without interuption, in the past couple of months they have stopped responding to support requests, and links on their homepage don't work. I tried 411 to get their phone number, and the company doesn't exist in the location. Anyways all I want to do is transfer the domain to godaddy, to the person that bought the site, and the transfer failed. I'm assuming its because the Low Budget Host people had to do something to approve the transfer. Its registered until may 2009, but is there any way I can get an authorization code or something without my host doing anything? I made sure it wasn't locked and followed all of Godaddy's instructions for transfer but it just failed.
Well if the host is trying to scam you, you can probably take legal action. But from their TOS http://www.lowbudgethost.com/terms.shtml The only thing you can really do is contact them.
But the only way for a domain to be transferred is for its host to approve it? Even if it's unlocked?
One other reason the transfer may have failed is the 60 day ICANN regulation. You say the domain expires in May 2009. Some registrars also have you sign "in-house Terms" with similar restrictions. Were 60 days already over when you initially tried to transfer? I'm not sure about your registrar specifically, but with some of the others, you can get an authorization code on your own. Try: Go to the panel where you can edit your registration info, unlock etc. Look around for something like --- "send authorization by email" or "send authorization code" or such. Click on the link. Check your e-mail account to see if you received the authorization codes. If you still cannot transfer. You may want to try contacting them one more time before filing a reort with ICANN. .
They actually responded so I completed the transfer after a few days. Word to the wise: never use a small host that looks in any way sketchy. And if stuff starts to go weird get out as soon as possible. Thanks for the help.
