since it doesn't disturb people, when they've look at the whole page and didn't find any thing interesting, they can always click on the Ads in the bottom. Placing it anywhere else decrease the quality of the page.
Ads placed in the footer will almost certainly see a lower CTR. So I guess it comes down to a balance between design aesthetics and a fear of disturbing vistors versus a higher CTR (generally meaning more money). Personally I prefer the higher CTR in most cases The chance of people getting anonoyed or offended by seing ads (unless the site is cluttered with them and generally "spammy") are very low these days. My own philosophy is to place the ads so they are visible on first loading the page, without having to scroll, but using colors that makes them match the rest of the content (blending borders). If people are truly interested in the content they will most likely browse the page/site anyway, and if not there's a great chance they will leave within few seconds (and if so they will not get to see any ads in the footer). Better that they leave clicking an ad
Yup... Many people i've spoke to have a same comment regarding the ads placement... They said that they would like a fast loading page with non-scroll website design. They would love to see a not to much graphic scattered aroun the website. But at the end... still the content is a king.... hehehe
Page footer has good CTR on one of my sites, people finish the text and they click.... and the heat map shows it too.
year, that's true. If you want your ads to be clicked, put them where they'll be noticed, in the center, not footer
I happened to open a copy of wired 2.0 while I was waiting at the dentists office. Content on left page, full page ad on right, next two full page ads, one page of content, full page ad, two more full page ads... If I did the same thing on a website I would make visitors click through two full pages of ads before they could see the next content page. A few ads blended into the content of each page doesn't begin to compare.
Exactly, tried tested and true. But Lakehorn also makes a good point about possibly decreasing page quality. I guess it really depends on your site's objective(s).
It seems to me that there could be a good niche' market in selling web templates that are optimized for AdSense.
For me, the placement of ads must be in the center of the page (blended thru) and should reflect your site topics. It should be nice also to see someone sell a google adsense approved templates around the net....
Your ad placement is going to obviously be determined by your outlook on how you want your site to be viewed. Some only want the footers as they are doing the site as a hobby and thus the revenue may not be the main reason for the site. Others may place them in the center just above the fold in the hottest spots for revenue reasons. How you place them is mostly based on what your reason is for the site overall. The best thing to do for a site you are trying to maintain the look of is to integrate the ads into the design and function of the content so that it is not disturbing to your visitors. Using bright out of place ads will only make your site look cluttered and thus keep some visitors from returning for a second round. Well blended ads that are not distracting can be pleasant for the visitors and also increase your revenue.
What's worked best for me is, like latehorn says, place a nice big add in the footer, bg blending in with your website color, and place a 728x15, or 468x15 text add at the top, hope this helps
latehorn i think i know why your footer works for you. your's is essentially an article content site. G has suggested that ads be placed below the article, since after a long (exhausting) period of reading text, they will look for something else to do, and an ad below the article provides something for them to click on. and since your article goes all the way to the footer, footer works for you. btw i'm seeing PSAs on some pages and ads about Scrabble on others.
