    Hi guys

Don’t be angry on me if the title doesn’t look right. I just can’t think of anything else :)

I want to know something and if you are running a web directory, you can help me.

Have you ever used any method of accepting Payment other than PayPal??? If so, how was the response??? And what are these other methods??

Do you think one can run a successful directory without having PayPal??
(Yes, your guess is right, that “one” is me)

And lastly, if you can think of a way to help me getting out of this “abandon mod” please do suggest.

I know its going to be a big trouble for me but I am not stepping aside now. I just wanted to know how much trouble it is. :)

    Thanks
    Fastian

Aviva is exceptional... I mean, they have got the position where everyone will be looking to find a way to get the listing.. (I am to go a long way)

2ndly, Alternative mod is currently in the process. Right now, Dan is helping me to sort a "glitch" using MB as payment option.

But the question is, how many of you have actually used anything other than PayPal?? And how many people use any other way to pay you?? Somehow, PayPal has become a standard (and unfortunately, I have no way to get it)

I was just wondering about that part, no one actually responded to the real question :p .

But only way to find out is run a directory without paypal system, and i have not seen any without paypal system yet. So you might not make any gain if thats what you are aiming to do with a directory, with portal other than paypal.

    Cheers

i suppose you cld set it up much like a shopping-cart system? taking credit card payments? not sure, but u cld try. Guess ppl are not too concerned whether it is paypal or not, except that it is easy, secure and fast. Main problem with trying another system, is the need for them to register, blah, blah, blah and their need for security, which cld potentially be solved using a shopping cart?

the paypal or not paypal issue is an interesting one. What about large companies looking to buy advertisement? I believe they do not use paypal to make payments, so only dirs accepting direct cc payment would get them.

One can accept credit card payment through paypal;)

In addition to paypal, I am thinking of accepting payment through e-gold...

Psst, if you are stuck for a title, howabout thinking about the question your post asks...

Maybe: Alternatives to PayPal for Directories?

Then people like me, who don't deal with payment at all at this point, won't be suckered into a thread that appears to be irrelevant... especially since I have nothing useful to contribute. ;)

You can accept CC with Paypal but not everyone can pay (even with CC) if you are using only PayPal.

    OK. The title is changed.
Let's see if I can get some suggestions now.

Why is that ? I thought anyone with CC can pay via paypal if the site has feature to accept CC via paypal.

He means the man only has personal account, which does not take off any fee. ;)

But I think if you want to run some business just upgrade your account to advanced.

I think the programming part would also be a headache.

Plus paypal would be the first choice of the person who is submitting his site in paid directories.

Imagine a scenario that a guy is submitting links one by one. Paying from his paypal.

Suddenly he comes to your directory in the list. Finds another payment mode.

Mostly he skips it and continues on with other directories.

If you want to take this chances then your directory should be a good one so that the submitter would go that extra mile and submit his site in your directory to get listed in it.

Finally I got a comment related to my issue. Thanks Nick

I know, not having PayPal is not good especially for a Directory as almost everyone have this method of payment. So submitters have got a habit of using PayPal.

I will be trying my best to get that "extra mile".

In the mean time, as my circle of friends increase here in DP, I might be able to use someone's PayPal. A lot of people are doing it but for now, I am not that lucky :)

I think Paypal is the most easiest and convenient way of transaction. Why would anyone choose a different payment method?
But if there is restrictions on the county --I think best is CC.:)

The same is true with MoneyBookers. Infect, I think MB have an added security as compare to PayPal and have more countries in their list which is a BIG plus.

Coz PP has a "short" list of accepted countries. They need to add more which seems to be impossible for them.
