Yours is a highly targeted niche, I would go look for a merchant that sells educational science kits or lab supplies, science books or DVDs. You could join the eBay partner network and point people to science equipment auctions. You could look for a dropshipper and sell products directly. If you really need to go the Adsense route, there are competitors. Try Yahoo ads, or Chitika or Kontera. There are also any number of smaller contextual ad services that take niche sites. Personally, I would go find a merchant/manufacturer and sign up as an affiliate. You can also sign up with an affiliate program management service, which will allow you to connect with many merchants. I would also suggest allowing comments as a way of creating community. You can also run a poll or survey to find out what people are looking for when they come to your site. You may get monetization ideas from that research.
