Alternatives for YouTube

For me, youtube sucks...partly because I'm on dialup I guess, but partly because well, they just suck.

I have used Photobucket as an alternative, but I'd like something else.

Their FAQ says that it can take up to 24 hours to upload a video, and while I've not got anything close to that, I have gotten an hour and a half to upload a file that took 25 minutes on photobucket....and today I'm having processing issues where it's taking over 2 hours now to process one, 1meg video. It said it was done processing an hour and a half ago, but I'm still getting this:

I'm on dialup (as I pointed out) and with that I certainly don't mind waiting a few minutes, heck, I expect it...but a few hours? MEH ~ not even on dialup.

So I want someplace else to waste my time with that doesn't feel like such a time waster. Any suggestions?

    I'll assume you meant connection...

I'd love to, but I live on the side of a mountain in Tennessee, and dialup or satellite are all that are offered here in BFE back country...and I'm not paying the prices for the headaches I've seen that come with most satellite services...besides, it's going WAY beyond my connection speeds.

And by way beyond, I mean, it's completely on their end now

My video status is saying: Broadcast: Public Video | Status: Live!

but it's still processing. IMHO, the site is broken, has been broken, and the only reason that it remains popular is because "everyone" uses it...though, from what I've seen it's the AOL of the video hosting companies, as user after user says "it's all I know, so it has to be good".

I want something else (so thanks for the suggestion).

Are any of the ones listed here, "youtube clones" (it's a new term I heard earlier)? I'd assume that a youtube clone would carry the same (or similar) issues that youtube does...

    I like Vimeo.
It's more of a grass roots community and videos are processed/available pretty quickly. They're player also looks nicer than YouTube etc..

Everyone, thank you for the replies!

I like them, it was WAY faster then either photobucket or youtube for me, and it processed rather quickly as well. I looked to find some type of referral system there but didn't find one.

    Thank you!

I've not clicked yet, but I'll try bored.com

I'm still on dialup, and I still rather dislike youtube. I tried a few of the above links and when I tried Vimeo I loved it. The interface was clean and easy and the upload times really impressed me. I've uploaded a few dozen clips since I started this thread, or rather since Kerosene suggested them.

I've been busy with other things as of late so I've not taken the time to upload much over the last couple of weeks. I had some free time this morning and thought I'd get one or two uploaded. To my dismay however they have a new ad set which is trying to get me to watch clips of Disturbia while I upload.

This would likely be all good and swell on DSL or Cable...but on this 48.0 dialup connection I'm finding my upload times a bit slower as spam is clogging up my already slow connection.

I guess I'll try, or re-try a few of the other options given in this thread....

Why can't people keep things simple?

    *sigh*
