Alternative to phpld

I really like PHPLD, I use it with aother directory. However, Dreamhost decided they will no longer allow me to run php as cgi and cannot get the directory to run right. Is there a good alternative to phpld?

I ran a couple of PHPLD's at dreamhost. Turn off (uncheck) php as cgi in control panel and it will work.

You could also look at site-sift listings which is also very good.

I've been on their a**es for quite some time.

They now have a mod_php 4.4.2 that allows for the smoothest install ever of phpld.

Anywho, you do NOT need 'php as cgi' ticked off.

For those having problems with dreamhost who haven't been upgraded yet with the mod_php 4.4.2, and when installing phpld, take these steps.

    1. upload and set all your permissions where need be.
    2. TICK run php as cgi (give a few minnutes to resolve)
    3. Run your installation etc etc.
    4. Once you get to the final screen to 'login as admin or view directory, go back into dreamhost and UNtick 'run php as cgi' (few mins to resolve)
    5. go back to your directory and login as admin.
    6. live happily ever after ;)

Yeah, the problem is, the option to click is no longer there. Some poeple seem to have it, while many others don't!

WIll the mod_php 4.4.2 resolve this? If so, where can I get it?

    Hi,

I know it's a bit uncool to bump ancient threads, but I had the same problem as the original poster and this thread ranks #1 in Google for "phpLD install" - and the suggested solutions don't work for new Dreamhost users.

an0n, it's really cool that you've cut and pasted then uploaded your graphic, but new dreamhost account holders don't see the mod_php radio button.

I found a solution by accident though and thought I would update this thread.

If you make a dummy WordPress installation, you'll see this message:
Note.. using this panel will set your domain to run PHP as a CGI if it isn't already! (Which is probably fine!)

Then you'll be able to install phpLD.

    Cheers,
    Paz.

Yes, we just installed it successfully as cgi recently for a customer, so let me know if you are still having trouble.

    Don't need the mod_php anymore regardless :)

According to the DreamHost Rep I was working with directly, run php as cgi is the default now (in/from any folder)

What David is talking about is a path problem, but as far as installs go, you should be ok. If not, let me know.

(i just reset the install process I have in the support forums, as per someones request. Was that you?)

Interestingly, i dont do any of the steps mentioned by Rob.

I add a new domain with the default settings.
wait for the dns to change, upload PHPLD, follow the installer steps and i am done.

    I don't do them either.

Some people... well, i dont know what they are doing over on their end.

I do exactly as you and I am done.

All that other stuff was just based off of trial and error and information exchanged between the assigned rep whom I was working with to resolve issues prior to 3.04 coming out.
I did a lot of testing to ensure phpLD 3.04+ would work with dreamhost without any problems. (and it should. Just some people don't know what they are doing, unfortunately and make life harder than it needs to be. =/)

You could use esyndicat.com instead of phpld which is another directory script and works well
