Alternative plugin to SmartPinger?

    I have the SmartPinger plugin, which is used to prevent automatic pinging if I need to edit a published entrie. But when I publish a new entrie, the page goes dead, giving a dnserror. However, the entrie still gets published. But I would rather not this happen. Anyone got an alternative to this plugin?

    What blogging platform are you using?

    I've got WordPress and while I've never been too anxious about when it pings I've never noticed other people talking about problems either.
