Alternative colors for shitty LCDs?

Does anybody know of any decent alternatives for F5F5F5 and EEEEEE? Lower-end LCDs and older LCDs seem to make these off-white/gray colors completely turn white - ruining my website layout.

Not much you can do about that, unless you start buying people better displays with better contrast ratios and brightness levels.

I know it's not the greatest suggestion, and it still might not look the bestest - one possible way to avoid the uglies would be to have a sublte gradient that would average out to be the same colour.

Worst case scenario is that they'd see an un-smooth gradient, but to all others it would be a barely noticeable effect.
