I am wondering whether text or image ads would do better on my site. How would you recommend doing that? Should I just run one for a week and then switch for a week? Or should I randomize it? If I choose "Text and Image ads" in Google, I don't see how I can track the performance of each type. Is that right? I would appreciate your suggestions. Thanks.
If you install an ad management script like OpenAds you'll be able to track the performance of banner V.S. text ads at the sametime. Having a code for text only and banner only code in one campaign and displayed at random. Ofcourse this will only give you an indication of which type has a higher CTR. The thing is google always attempts to display the most profitable ad campaign, so if you limit your ads to one format you eliminate a possible higher earnings from each click. But You could try it and test it out ..and see if having on or the other has a significant effect on CTR. If it does then it won't matter if you earn a lil less per click if you make it up in volumes of clicks.
You can set up a simple rotator script using PHP or javascript to rotate between two different google adsense codes - this way you can use two different channels (one with text only and one with image only) and use the adsense interface to figure out which one does better
Do you guys know what you're talking about? Neither one pays more than the other. http://adsense.blogspot.com/2006/03/cpm-ads-knowing-facts-can-pay-off.html
