Altavista, the then most popular search engine..... I used that when I was in my early 20s and loved it... so much so that I remember the URL wasnt even their own domain. it used to be on digital equipment corporations domain as a sub... altavista.digital.com

Hehe, yeah, I remember those times as well. SEO meant putting the keyword on a page 200 times, but noone really cared for SE traffic anyway.

aaaaaa yes the days of AltaVista i remember them well at the time about the good search engine there was then google/Yahoo came in to the light ;).

They just did not keap up with the Fast inpack that happened still is a very good search engine but google is much fast and easer to tipy in lol.

but they where the first to make a free online language text translation. which is about all i use it for now. as i just find more in google now i also use it when i use dogpile as it searches it as well  i find it usfull when i use it that way.

na i cant see it coming back as everyone is just use to Google not many people even now there are other search engines out there i only use the others if i can not find something in Google they are very help then but the rest of the time i just use Google sad i now but it just works better most of the time.

but you could really say AltaVista as a search engine gave us what we have two day. if only they could add new things they could have a change like they did back in the day.

but i hope if yahoo do sell up that the don't sell AltaVista as well

AltaVista is a total shame, yahoo owns it and hasn't changed a thing since they bought it - this is yahoo's problem they buy stuff than leave it, unlike Google which integrates everything.

But I must say that people love retro, just take a look at the car industry (MINI, Fiat 500, Dodge challenger...) so if yahoo did a total design upgrade/redux and did some tweaking to the search engine I think I could work.

Imagine if yahoo decided that the yahoo brand would be for their web portal (as it is now yahoo.com) but marketed AltaVista as their search engine site (direct rival to google.com) and from then on, everywhere that Yahoo used search it stated "Powered by AltaVista Search"

    What you think?
