Alt image tags

I have a couple questions about images. How important are alt image tags to SEO? And will using your keywords in the image file name itself matter for seo?

Alt tags can be a great thing for your site's SEO, meta tags used to be the same but I've heard search engines barely give you any credit for them anymore. Be sure not to abuse your alt tags or you could end up in a worse postition than you started.

 

You get a little credit but not too much. Also... be careful not to over do your keyword as this can have negative effects as well.

 

They help a little for SEO, but help a lot for the visually impaired...which is the intention. I suggest using alt and title tags for those who rely on it.

 

It won't hurt, so if not too time consuming, do it.

You should always use alt tags for images. Some people even toss in a title tag in the same image tag. I say add them. It only takes a second and no harm done. And if it benefits you even remotely it only took a second or two to add it.

It helps but its not critical. Every little bit helps with with SEO.
