We give lots of traffic to people who post our reviews on their websites since so many people search for them.
This thread perpetuates a misunderstanding that is commonly posted on DP. The reality is that anyone can put numerous keywords on the first page of search results, if those keywords are not competitive. For example, here are WordTracker's numbers of daily searches for those keywords: discuss proxy - 0 discuss proxies - 0 proxy webmaster discussion - 0 proxy discussion forums - 0 proxy discussion forum - 0 general proxy discussion forum - 0 newsletter blast - 0 proxy webmaster - 0 proxy discussions - 0 proxy webmaster forum - 0 The point is that search results on the first page matter only if those keywords actually receive searches. No disrespect at all meant to the original poster. But it's important to clear up this common error on DP — keep in mind that anyone can score keywords on page #1 if those keywords are noncompetitive. I don't even bother to track keywords that receive less than about 25 daily searches on the internet.
Great domain name , also good luck for your website hope to see you on top for proxy forum aswell [:d]
Totally agree with Jim4767 - and let me make quite a controversial statement - it is fairly easy to rank at number 1 on Google, but please go and investigate the search volume for the phrases - use Google's keyword tool and you'll most likely see a low volume search count for ALL of the keywords that you rank for. Please dont be discouraged - its just that ultimately the reason you want to be on the top of Google is that you want TRAFFIC - with such low search counts , doesnt make a hoot if you have 100 top 1 positions, if all theyre throwing you are some crumbs (if at all...)
To prove the point further, I just now went and copied-and-pasted the following random sentence fragment from my home page — "...in its varied expressions worldwide, is second only...". Sure enough, as expected, it is #1 in Google. But of course absolutely zero people are searching for that precise phrase. Anyone of you could do the same experiment with a randomly excerpted phrase from your indexed home page. The only rankings that matter are ones that people are searching for.
If your site is new, your site might be enjoying google's "honeymoon period" atm. I am afraid to tell you that your site will go down in ranking to fight it's way up to top like all other new sites. Or worse, it can also sink in so called google sandbox. Exactly same happened with my new site and now it is sandboxed!
Jim hit the nail on the head as he has done many times over. Use this opportunity to do some keyword research and target keywords that will bring some traffic.
Your domain definitly gives you a boost in the search results. But, if your website is brand new don't expect it to last to long. I've had some of my websites rank in top 5 for all my keywords for maybe two months, then dissapear completely (although still crawled and indexed) from the search results for a few months, and then come back.
Hey thanks for the comments. I can't say that 0 people are searching though, since I am getting hits from those terms in Google Analytics. I'm curious, how many searches does 'proxy forum' get?
My rank for 'proxy forum' has gone up to 20. According to Google Webmaster Tools, a week ago it was at 55. I will report every so often about my changing ranks. I have changed all of my anchor texts in signatures on different forums from 'proxy webmaster forum' to just 'proxy forum'.
I think a combination of factors are going into your high ranking on the serp. uncommon keywords, great domain name, something not serached for often, or just difficult to find information about (I know I've searched a few time for a proxy forum/a site to discuss proxies), etc. If you really market and build your site, you should be able to increase traffic to it, its prominence for the topic, etc. Good job!
Just an update. For some of these terms, my rank has gotten worse (I guess it is the newbie thing), but for others, it has gotten better. I am happy to say that I am now on the first page for 'proxy forum' (right above the proxy.org forum link). Some other terms: proxy webmaster - 3 glype sample - 1 proxy discussion - 10 discuss proxy - 1 discuss proxies - 1
