That's an eye opening article. I do not think Bing will completely tank, it will be just another search engine, just like Ask.com. How many people really know about Ask.com, but it's there and some prefer it over other search engines?

The coin always has two sides and it depends on which side you are looking at. Some people like it a lot and are hopeful that Bing will make it, while some are annoyed with it and want it to bomb, simply because it belongs to MS!

I guess OP has been pretty vocal about which side he belongs to and I sincerely admire his ways and efforts to make his intention public! :)

Yeah its numbers grew out of the 'curiosity factor' and nothing more. As a search engine along with it's sponsored results listings, it will probability perform as well if not slightly better than when it was live search. The only way to know for sure is to look at it's performance stat's in traffic and ppc earnings in a years time, then its true prowess as a search engine will truly be known.

Remember, I did not write the article. Far more people here have been fawning over Bing without anything to back up their feelings and with no logic at all. Anything I have voiced is to show the reality of things and not opinion. I show links to back up everything I say.

If anyone thinks I'm wrong, show me.

It's a disturbing factor, but i think Bing will eventually capture at least some part of the market :)

Not all things in the world remain right or wrong forever and personal perception/belief is one such thing. Time is the big factor and it has the power to change our strongest of belief as nothing is certain.

I do not belong to MS to take their side but I do believe that the time since its launch is too short a period to make an efficient judgment. I would reserve to say good or bad, only after its effectiveness or otherwise, is tested over a longer period. :)

It depends to an extent. I use any search engine - I just want an answer to my query. If one does not give it, i'll try the next and so on.
There have been many times when I have found something on Yahoo for eg on the first page after getting close but not quite there results on Google after many pages. This has included stuff on Live which I found amusing when I first came across it.

Having had a look at Bing, it is not too bad but has a way to go. One thing it does better than Google is video search
    eg
Compare a search for Fiji in
    Google Video: http://video.google.com/videosearch...&hl=en&tab=wv#q=fiji&hl=en&emb=0&client=opera

    and now in Bing: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=fiji&go=&form=QBLH&scope=video&filt=all&qs=n

More results, better layout and I love the video playing when you hover your mouse on a video result(try it and judge for yourself).

Many people are not aware of Advanced Search on Google to help narrow down their search. It's easy to use and right on the front page but most pay no attention to it. Also, there are boolean searches and the like.

Bing isn't that bad. It's just everyone is used to search or even navigate using Google.
In some aspects it's better than Google. Google's pagerank algorithm seems to go nuts sometimes. :D

At least they're not like Microsoft which has been under Federal oversite since 2001 and must report to the government its operations every few months due to the anti-trust actions against it.
