Very true, and that is something that I had not thought about. Someone could not publish a book for 2 - 3 years, and then demand that the books be returned.

Thank you for taking the time to post a reply, I was hoping that you would.

Right... we don't claim to be the copyright holder of anything anyone posts, we only claim to be the publisher.

Us not allowing users to arbitrarily delete posts/threads they created has nothing to do with us being malicious and trying to "control" our users. I really could care less about an individual post, thread or even everything a single user posts. It's more about setting a precedent if users are allowed to edit/delete what they said historically... You end up with users altering what they said, or claiming they never said something to begin with (imagine if you could just completely edit the description/price of a sale thread after the fact... after people have bid on whatever the original item was).

There are other more obscure cases of things that could happen... say you stayed logged in, and you and your wife were in a fight over something. She could hop on your computer and just maliciously delete everything (not just limited to wives... could be friends, roommates or maybe just someone who had their account compromised due to phishing).

You would open up a whole new can of worms with sale threads... someone could sell something, only to delete the thread and recreate it every day as a new form of "bumping".

The list of issues that can crop up by allowing users to do it goes on and on... so that's the short version of why we don't allow it. It just causes too many issues. If you think there's even an off-chance you might regret posting something in the future, don't post it.

We don't make anyone post anything, nor do we even ask people to post anything. And we certainly aren't going to make more work for us by allowing people to make requests for us to edit/delete stuff they did in the past (we would get nothing else done, ever).

I have opened a thread 5 months ago and bought pr2, pr3 blogposts on linksales section. Now i need to buy pr4, pr5 blogpost but when i tried to do that, moderators delete my message as duplicate. They said that to me, use ur old topic. But my old topic's subject and content is regarding buy blogposts from pr2, pr3, pr4 NOW I NEED TO BUY ONLY PR4 AND PR5 BLOGPOSTS with new prices.

I couldn't edit my old topic
I couldn't delete my old topic
    I couldn't open a new thread

    What should i do?

Next time I go to a convenience store and I see myself on the CCTV set above the cashier, I'm going to try emailing the owner of the store two days later and demand that they delete the part of the surveillance footage that has me in it since showing it on the TV above the cashier was a public display of my likeness. I might even demand royalties for that public display.

I'll probably just get laughed at.

Perhaps go to the showgroups page and see if a moderator is online. Kindly ask if they can do it for you?

When you view the Spy, you can watch a moderator delete post after post or edit thread titles. Im pretty sure they can do it.

Can or will are two different things. We only delete threads/posts that violate our posting guidelines.

I wonder if you have records that show deleted posts?
And I'm not talking about the one that received infractions but the one you deleted
just because you don't like what post says, like for example my article about DMOZ volunteers.

    ???

The script has a soft delete option so deleted posts can still be viewed by moderators and admins if needed, not sure if it’s used or not.

    Thanks Brian

What section did you mean to post it in that it would not be deemed inappropriate?

    Clearly mods are out to get you... {rolls eyes}

Click on the go advanced edit option.

    Use the bump/edit option.
