Please vote for one of these two...

IMO, Maradona is better despite the fact Pele won lots of prices for all-time best footballer.
Maradona is not a role model to kids and I think this is the only reason newspapers and football organizations prefer Pele over him.
Pele had better teammates and it is easier to show up when you play with Zico or Garincha etc etc etc...

    What are your opinions?

sorry, but this is not even a question for me;) Maradona was a great football player, but Pele is something like a FOOTBALL GOD! Here are just some of his actions (and not even best;)), what Pele did for football is really great!

and, btw, never had any problems with drugs, this is important for me too...

I prefer Pele too. Maradona is a bit too controversial a character. I still remembered his "Hand of God" when Argentina was playing England.

Do you remember the goal of the century ? Weaving, dodging, running and finishing it off ?

I'd probably go for Pele, but as I have really not watched him over a period of time- just glimpses here and there, I'm probably not the right person to judge.

I don't think that winning more WC's is something that you will measure a player. Just check who has been playing with Pele those days...

While I agree that playing with equally good footballers can make you look better than you actually are, the reverse can hold true as well. Consider this.

You may be talented, but the other guys do not consider you important enough. And when they do give the ball to you, it is in a situation where your chances of doing something are next to zero. You miss, and are branded a not-so-great player.

First of all, don't get me wrong, I think Pele was really excellent but I think Maradona is a little bit in his shadow because of his drug and other non-popular problems... That's way I wanted to hear other peoples' opinions...

But, greatliverpoolfan (congrats on yesterdays great win!) what do you say about Maradona winning 2 Italian championships and UEFA cup with Napoli? Not an easy thing to do...

I would have to go for Pele, just. Reason being is I always found Maradona to be a show-off or ball hog sort of player. When you see Pele you see team work in my eyes. Anyway, Maradona's drug addiction also made me lean towards Pele.

Pele is the best, because he scored like 1,300 goals! you might say that football was different those days, but why the other strikers didn't score that much? Pele was a role model and it will remain like this, both on and off the field

    Diego Armando Maradona!

    The difference was this :

Pele was an attacker and all the team was playing for him whereas Maradona was a midfielder and he had to play for his team.

Come on , in 1957 I could also be the best goalscorer in Brazil whereas Maradona went to Naples , won also the Italian Championship and he really deserves to be #1

I understand that football has evolved and become more difficult, so I guess that you should look at what they could do with the ball rather than their achievements.

oea, two posts above you stated "I believe that too many forgot or don't know about Pele'".

As far as I know Pele achieved more than Maradona. But, like Olgi said "Come on , in 1957 I could also be the best goalscorer in Brazil whereas Maradona went to Naples , won also the Italian Championship and he really deserves to be #1"

if pele would have born at maradonnas time the he would not have scored as much he has, maradonna has more skills i think, and was best when level of football was very high
