    The first one I picked out from this list to look up, atlantis9.org seems to show an individual in China, with Yahoo has the technical contact.

    Perhaps some people, for whatever reason, set the whois info for their domain(s) to Google (or Yahoo, or another large internet brand), even when that company doesn't actually own the domain. It's probably against the ICANN rules and maybe even illegal, but I don't think many registrars actually check the validity of whois contacts.
