All of my email sent to hotmail addresses is classified as spam

    Hey everyone,

I never send spam from my servers, the only reason I contact users is to send registration and order confirmations. However, every email I send to a hotmail user is classified as spam. Does anyone else have this problem or does anyone know of any solutions?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

It may be a reverse DNS issue. I had the same problem with AOL awhile back, though they wouldn't process the email at all.

I had my web hoster look into the problem, and he was able to change the DNS entries to fix it. Sorry, however I'm not entirely sure how...

That a first thing for mailing server, to have reverse dns. You can find many free services as http://www.zoneedit.com/lookup.html for reverse dns lookup. If there no host associate with your ip, many mail services will reject your emails or store in spam box. If you using dedicated server, open support ticket and ask them to assign your host and domain in reverse dns records. If you are using shared hosting, i don't think that possible to do.

I had the same problem, all my emails from my site would go to user's spam box, I did to thing to fix this.
    1. check to see if my ip was marked for spam.
    2. Setup a SPF, since hotmail is big supporter of SPF.

You can check your ip to see if it marked for spam in http://www.dnsstuff.com/ and also to setup spf for your domain check here please http://www.openspf.org/SPF_Record_Syntax

    Hope this helps you out.

microsoft is definitely finicky when it comes to what they define as spam. my email gets flagged as spam if i use use "domain.com", but "Domain.com" doesn't.

It's not just Hotmail, but yahoo and google have problems as well in selecting the spam messages, so I guess it will take a while to get them fixed.

I only email customers regarding orders they have placed on my site, so it is definitely not spam.

Funnily enough, I was listening to a podcast about SPF today "Security Now from The Twit Network"

This is immediately what I thought of when I saw this post!

I hope that's the answer, my friend :)

Well, this is directly related to your problem but it seems that almost all the mail I receive in my hotmail is marked as spam. It's really weird considering messages sent through eBay from eBay members was marked as spam until I contact hotmail. It was a real hassle, that's why I as an email receiver, like Gmail more.

Sorry to hear that people you send mail to aren't getting it since it is marked as spam. That's really unfair and I hope you find a solution to the problem.

Ya, Hotmail pretty much sucks. I only use them if I absolutly have to. There are so many better options for e-mail out there now.

SOmeone probably hit the spam button when they received your email. When that happens, email providers will usually send all the emails you sent to the Spam folder.

Really, all you have to do is tell your friends to classify your mail as NOT SPAM and in your allow email addy. Even when i get email from gmail that happens sometimes. It can end up in my spam folder
