I just had a little notice show up in my adsense reports saying that I've been send a note with a pin number in it that I have to enter. Is this normal? Also, my ad targetting took a nosedive today. I used to have relevant summer camp ads on my summer camp blog page and now all i have are PSA's. Does this just happen every now and then or is something bad occuring? http://www.goculver.com
It's okay, the PSAs are only showing up on your front page, the interior pages are showing just fine. Adsense always has trouble with the front page of blogging sites, especially if they don't spider you often.
Anything I can do to minimize these PSA's on the front page though? This is a blog I'm running and most of my clicks were coming from the front page ads. I haven't had a click in 3 days since this started. Arg. Is it worth e-mailing Google about it?
well whats bothering me is that the page has been up on google for 10 months actually and the adsense ads were running perfectly for 3 weeks before this started on Tuesday.
What kind of blogging software are you using? If you have a pinging option, increase the weight on your front page to tell Google to crawl it more often.
running wordpress. It's working intermittently now. We'll see how things look on monday. I'll up the weight in my sitemap.
Are your ads on other pages as well? For my blog, I have no ads at the homepage but in the blog I get plenty.
There are ads on all of my pages. I guess I'm just letting a bunch of coincidences spook me out. On Tuesday morning: 1. The plugins on my blog all fizzed out due to me making the wrong folder writable in wordpress. This brought my whole site down for 5 hours until I had time to find the folder. 2. I get an e-mail from google about this pin number stuff. 3. The PSA's all started showing up. And I haven't had a click since then, which is odd since I was getting 6-8 a day for three weeks before that. Oh well, could just be a spate of bad traffic at the moment. Got to stay on the even keel and see what happens. Thanks for the tips again guys. Anyone else ever had a bunch of weird stuff spook them about their sites?
UPDATE: Well its been a week and a half now and its only gotten worse and worse for the front page of my blog. The Adsense units on the front are set to display YPN when they would be showing a PSA and I've gone from having 200 impressions a day in YPN to receiving 1800 YPN impressions yesterday, which means that not one visitor to my site saw Adsense on my front page. Because YPN sucks (re: no summer camp relevant ads) I have received 3% of the clicks on my site that I was receiving when I was displaying Adsense. I have no clue what to do. I even moved my leaderboard up a lot higher on my page and spent time clearing up front page errors (there are a few still but they're all related to my ebay RSS feed and the ajax for my post ratings). What should I do next? Is there anyone at Google who helps publishers figure out what the deal with their sites is? Is there a way I can redirect visitors to my front page to another page automatically? Something with more keywords in the URL like www.goculver.com/summercamp.php ? Would that help? This has sucked. Am a little discouraged here...not trying to do anything shady or spammy and this is happening. I guess its part of the learning curve.
Is Summer Camping a good niche? Maybe you should think of another niche and build more sites. The more sites you have the more revenue you make.
I saw the ads on home page, but didn't see link unit. you should change ads placement. that ads not even east to notice.
What do you mean by "east to notice"? The ad unit under the random gallery images? Thats solid placement isn't it? Right under 4 images like that? Did you see google ads or a yahoo leaderboard under the random images on the front page? http://www.goculver.com As for the niche itself, you're definitely right, summer camping isn't that great of a niche, but the site itself came first, I'm just trying to figure out how to break even with adsense on it. And things were going great until the PSA debacle. You guys are great by the way. Thanks for the support...
He must have gotten tired of seeing the PSA ads. Happened to one of my sites as well but since it's new, I'll wait a bit and see what happens...
